Association for Information Systems

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) was founded in 1994 as a professional organisation whose purpose is to serve as the premier global organization for academics specialising in Information Systems (IS). AIS was strengthened by mergers in 1998 with ISWorld and in 2001 with The International Conference on Information Systems. It provides financial support for the Pacific Area Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) and the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). AIS is organised into three regions.  Chapters were originally formed by areas within the US, but more recently a number of international chapters have been formed.

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is the premier body that promotes research, practice and education in the area of Information Systems.  AIS has members from close to 100 countries in the world and is active in promoting academic research directly through its conferences, basket of journals, networking opportunities and indirectly through many affiliated conferences, special interest groups, regional chapters and student chapters.  It has moved from being an association of information systems researchers to being a collaborative knowledge ecosystem involving over 4000 members from different countries who interact both on the physical space and also through the AIS digital platforms.  AIS has around 40 chapters across the world and the chapters are the extended arms of the Association. The Chapters are expected to engage in professional activities related to information systems such as organizing conferences, workshops, supporting journals, promoting exchange of ideas in the specific region.
